Sitting among the tall, thin pines and jagged rocks, this residence overlooks Dark Harbor in Islesboro, Maine. Based upon the unique American style that populates New England, the building creates an elegant and casual intervention into the often-harsh Maine environment. The interior uses finely detailed warm woods that open onto the deck wrapping the house. They rhythm of the columns and porch rafters echo the rhythm of the surrounding trees, visually connecting refined interior spaces with ever changing natural scenes. Attention was paid to such details as roof water run-off with solutions reinforcing nature - gutters were eliminated and the porch decking spaced to channel the falling water back to the ground.
