A major design goal of this home was to integrate green design features to minimize environmental impact while still creating a home that is healthy, comfortable, energy efficient, and durable. The house eliminates the myth that building green requires compromise and sacrifice in comfort and design. The green design aspects integrated into the home reduce the environmental footprint, promote sustainable development on a residential scale, and enhance the homeowner’s quality of life. Green design features focused on energy and water efficiency, reduced site impact and stormwater runoff, reduced materials and resource use, and waste generation. The barn not only shelters horses and equipment but also generates electricity from a Photovoltaic System on the roof and is utilized to collect rainwater for reuse and minimize stormwater runoff.
