“Sustainability” is both a term and an approach to design, which has differing definitions and is evolving to distinguish itself through form, materials and performance. Although the claims of being “green” are often vague and contradictory, the movement encompasses notions of energy, durability and a connection to nature. Lyman Perry Architects has worked over the last several years to incorporate sustainable aspects into its projects, reducing the impact the projects have on the enivronment. The Residence in Kennett Square was awarded the LEED Silver Certification, and is currently the only LEED-certified new residence in the Philadelphia area.
